1953-1960 Classic Car Engines Troubleshooting Guide: Engine Oil Dilution
The text for this Guide originally appeared in the 23rd edition of Motor's Repair Manual, published in 1960 and copyrighted by Motor Information Systems, and is used with their permission.
Things to Look For:
- Oil contains foam caused by presence of water in oil. Water may be due to condensation within crank-case or to a leaky cylinder head gasket.
- Extreme dilution of oil by fuel may add enough liquid to oil to mislead. In extreme cases, oil level may increase. Dilution is greatest when frequent stops are made in cold weather.
