Clutch pedal assist spring in correct position with front hook facing upward.
If the clutch pedal on a 1958 Mercury Medalist model makes a noise when it is depressed, the n oise may be due to an improperly installed assist spring. When the spring is reversed, it can contact the top inner panel of the cowl or the exhaust inlet pipe.
To install the spring properly, turn the long extension to the front with the opening of the eye upward.
