FACTORY FIXES

1959 Edsel Governor Position

The governor assembly must be installed on a 1958 PBE model transmission output shaft in a position that places the governor all the way forward against its retaining shoulder. When the governor is not installed in this position the retaining snap ring may be incorrectly installed in the grinding relief groove at the front of the distributor sleeve journal, instead of in the governor snap ring groove.

If the retaining snap ring is not installed in the correct groove, the governor assembly may slide back on the shaft. This will partially restrict the governor feed and discharge passages. Upshifts will then be delayed, or will not occur at all, because of the reduced pressure to the governor.
